Sample of the Month ✨
The Idea
Over the past 6 years of EKF, we have collected many, many beautiful samples that we absolutely LOVE for various collections we’re launching, especially in the last year or so. When we get samples made, the goal is to show you all of the ways that we would use our colorways in different designs – from smaller items like socks and hats to larger staples like sweaters.
Every sample has been well-loved and well-worn by me over the years, and as I started having more fun challenging myself creatively in styling my knitwear, the idea for Sample of the Month came to me.
A moment to showcase a specific EKF archive sample every month, with ideas for how to style it and two different color palettes to choose from to make it yourself!
The Why
As of late, I have found myself reaching for older EKF samples more and more, and every time I do, it makes my heart squeeze with a little sadness, when it feels like some of these sweaters, tops, shawls, socks, etc., had only a brief moment in the spotlight before the collection it was created for was launched. Then the team and I go into full-on dye mode and, before you know it, we’re onto the next collection. The samples are usually shown only once or twice, and for me, thinking about all the hard work that goes into the sample-making process, that is simply not enough.
Personally, I spend so much time carefully choosing design + color pairings for every sample we decide to get made, which is something I absolutely love and cherish deeply. After that, our incredible sample knitters and crocheters spend hours and hours creating these beautiful pieces for us.
Because of this, this year I want to give as many of them as I can a chance to be recognized, again, and share with all of you my excitement over just how timeless knitwear can genuinely be.
The Breakdown
One request we saw over and over again last year was for more kits and shorter preorder turnaround times, in addition to our typical collection launches.
Sample of the Month will achieve both of those things.
Every month, we will offer both kits AND the option to purchase individual skeins of the three color palettes provided for SOTM.
The kit listings are like the ones we have always created, where you can easily choose the color and size you need for the pattern.
The individual colorway listings will give you the option to purchase as many single skeins as you would like in the base needed for our SOTM.
This gives you the freedom to purchase skeins on our offered base for a different project if you’d like, and/or to grab a skein or two if you already have some in your stash and need some to round out your project.
Some months, there will be two bases available for purchase. For example, this will happen for samples that include multiple bases, such as Suri Alpaca Lace and Rockies DK.
