ART (inspiring) ART: The Tonal Box 🎨

This year, the theme for our Winter Solstice Box is:

With this year's Winter Solstice Box, I am shining a light on the art that has inspired my art. The art that tugged at my heartstrings and made me feel. Primarily, art created by hands whose stories are about making something from nothing. Who went down paths no one had gone down before. Who defied the odds. Who pivoted. Who found themselves again through their work. Who ignored the voices of people determined to keep the status quo. Who reminded me what it's like to play. To experiment. To forge.

Art Inspiring Art is an exploration of play, experimentation, and embracing a creative spark even when it flickers in an unfamiliar place, where you have to be a beginner again. It’s an exploration of trust: in artists, in the creative process, and in the things that move us.

I am creating our Solstice collection as a tribute to artists ranging from Sheila Hicks and Mark Rothko to Olga de Amaral, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Annie Albers, and the unknown artists whose work I’ve stumbled upon at exactly the right moment. Of artists whose work has inspired and influenced my own  – and, most importantly, whose work has reminded me why making art matters in the first place.

It is a celebration of art made by human hands and hearts.
